CPG | Creative Operations Optimization & Martech System Vetting

A worldwide CPG asks how they can save costs and improve efficiency within their global packaging operations. Millions of dollars in licensing were spent on various DAM, Workflow, and Collaboration systems, which supported dozens of different operating models and marketing processes.

Leading a small team from ICP, we first performed a workflow audit of representative markets to identify pain points, opportunities for standardization, and a maturity model for future market assessments. Next, we defined a set of functional requirements for the DAM and Workflow based on this clear definition of the operational processes and needs. Several leading vendors were vetted against these requirements using the vetting process outlined previously.

Our deliverables included a 2 year operational and technical roadmap to consolidate disparate DAM/Workflow/Approval systems, increase operational maturity, and decrease worldwide licensing costs.

Publishing I Content and Workflow Audit & Taxonomy Strategy

A traditional educational publisher recognized that it’s customers reading habits had changed fundamentally. While the entire organization (the creative operation in particular) orbited around the book – it’s customers were demanding content in many more formats, and in much smaller chunks. At the same time the business understood a shift towards "outcome based learning" where strong relationships are developed between learning content and learning management systems.

Working with Avalon Consulting, we first performed a content and workflow audit to clearly define our go forward content model and identify the opportunities to improve the content operation. Once a flexible content model was defined that broke the book down into chunks of valuable and related content, we outlined a taxonomy strategy to support content organization and discovery.

Manufacturing | DAM Selection for Creative Operations

The marketing and communications department for an international electronics manufacturer knew their creative quality and efficiency was suffering without a DAM system. As an international and de-centralized operation responsible for developing marketing content across channels their requirements were significant, but achievable.

First, we distilled the marketing operation into a set of clear business scenarios, with each scenario focused on the what and why (e.g. the objective and value) rather than the how. Next, each business scenario was prioritized and mapped to series of distinct functional requirements using a Vetting Grid. Finally a group of vendors were reviewed and our final recommendation was delivered to the client. Read more about this project on my blog.

Agency | Marketing Technology Portfolio Analysis and Roadmap

One of the worlds largest marketing and premedia services companies approached TorreyCC during a comprehensive digital transformation of its strategy and operations. While leadership began aligning sales and operations with its new strategy it became apparent that their client-facing marketing technology portfolio would soon become an obstacle to change and growth.

The marketing portfolio had grown through acquisitions and a de-centralized development process that resulted in strong individual application capabilities – but also tremendous functional overlap, gaps, and no cohesive product identity. TorreyCC performed a detailed analysis of the portfolio across a series of axis including: technical risk, operational value, client value, and functional maturity (compared to market leaders).

Concluding this analysis TorreyCC developed a go-forward portfolio roadmap and a detailed series of immediate and near-term actions for both sunsetting and investing in the portfolio components.

Marketing Services | High Velocity Content Workflow

Leadership at Snap36, a Chicago-based studio for cost effective 360° & 3D product imagery were ready to scale their creative operations. Business growth was steady, and the studio processes that supported product samples, data, and images were efficient and mature. Unfortunately the systems supporting the studio were immature and poorly integrated, leading to inefficiencies for the studio and more importantly it’s clients. Enter TorreyCC.

First, we thoroughly reviewed the studio workflow both for opportunities to add efficiency and to understand where the existing systems were working successfully (or not). Next, we mapped the workflow to a series of prioritized business scenarios and developed a list of corresponding functional requirements using our Vetting Grid. Finally, a small group of relevant vendors were reviewed and our final recommendation was delivered to the client.
